1. Department Scale

Gynecology Unit 4, also named as Pelvic Floor Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center (PFDDTC), is composed of Pelvic Floor Surgery Ward (51 beds, located at Building 2, 13th floor), Pelvic Floor Specialist Clinic and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Area. It has totally 13 regular doctors, 24 registered nurses, including 3 master supervisors and 5 senior level consultants. It also has undergraduate and master medical students, junior training doctors, visiting doctors, etc.

Our unit integrates clinical work, medicine teaching, scientific research and public welfare, striving for the realization of “double first-class”, which means being world-class university and world-class discipline.

1. Clinical work: Develop various diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for pelvic floor diseases, clarify clinical standardization, and lead the technological advancement.
2. Teaching work: Establish characteristic teaching and training of pelvic floor specialties to consolidate professional foundation and training specialized rationales.
3. Scientific research: Promote basic and clinical research, combine medicine, engineering and informative science to stimulate professional innovation.
4. Public Welfare Work: Strengthen science popularization and primary training, develop smart medicine, and build the foundation for pelvic floor specialty alliance.

1. National/Provincial Recognition& Rank

Our Center has formed a clear research direction of Urology gynecology based with our development history and advantages. The Urogynecology department is the earliest specialty which was established in China. Its diagnosis and treatment of female genital tract plastic and repair, pelvic floor dysfunction and other diseases have reached the advanced level in China. Zhejiang Gynecological Urology and Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Quality Control Center is affiliated to our hospital. The chairman of Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Committee of China Maternal and Child Health Association, chairman of Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Committee of Zhejiang Preventive Medical Association, chairman of Pelvic Floor Group of Zhejiang Medical Association Gynecology and Obstetrics Branch are all from our hospital. The diagnosis and treatment ability of pelvic floor disease is in the leading position in Zhejiang province and enjoys a high reputation in China. More than one hundred visiting doctors and 52 visiting nurses from the provinces of Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan and Hainan, etc.have accomplished their training in our center.

We are the pioneer in gynecological urology specialty and pelvic floor rehabilitation technology. So far, we have formed a standardized treatment, havehad a long-term stable team of specialists who have professional knowledge of gynecological urology and pelvic floor rehabilitation and various pelvic floor rehabilitation treatment regimes, including a number of representatives of the most advanced surgical techniques in China and abroad. We have national and provincial key projects with the support from Urology and Anorectal interdisciplinary departments, and from the outcomes of basic research on gynecological urology and pelvic floor rehabilitation.

1. Pelvic Floor Specialist Outpatient Clinic: ordinary consulting rooms and famous doctors consulting room.

Pelvic Floor Function Assessment and Rehabilitation Treatment Area(Room 1-415 separates small rooms within an area of 107 square meters.):Carry out pelvic floor rehabilitation treatment (electric stimulation, magnetic stimulation technology, manual massage), urodynamics, urine flow rate, pessary treatment and other rehabilitation and examination projects

3.Pelvic Floor Surgery Ward(51 beds):Main surgeries are listed as follows: Pelvic floor reconstruction surgery, anti-stress urinary incontinence surgery, genital tract malformation surgery.

1. Pelvic Floor Specialist Clinic: provide professional outpatient service for those with various pelvic floor diseases.
2. Pelvic Floor Function Evaluation and Rehabilitation Treatment Area: pelvic floor function evaluation and non-surgical treatment; rehabilitation course: Provide non-surgical treatment services, including pelvic floor function assessment, pessary, electrical stimulation, magnetic stimulation, etc.

1. Pelvic Floor Specialist Clinic: Welcome patients at the reception, detailed inquiries about medical history, comprehensive specialist examination, correct diagnosis, and individualized patient-centered treatment.
2. Pelvic Floor Function Assessment and Rehabilitation Treatment Area: Provide pelvic floor anatomy and function assessment and non-surgical treatment, including accurate assessment of pelvic floor function and implementation of relevant specialized auxiliary examinations, give appropriate rehabilitation treatment.
3. Pelvic Floor Surgery Ward:Carry out all kinds of pelvic floor disease related operations, and active innovation, continuous improvement.

1. Research Direction

Mainly on the basic and clinical research on the pathogenesis of pelvic floor dysfunction disease to construct a regional pelvic floor tiered medical service diagnosis and treatment system.

In 2017, we received about 30,000 pelvic floor diseases outpatients, and conducted 20,000 pelvic floor rehabilitation treatments and 3,000 ward surgeries (including around 500 pelvic floor operations). We standardize the development of pelvic floor specialist techniques, carry out pelvic floor anatomy and functional evaluation of women: pelvic floor muscle strength and electrophysiological evaluation, vaginal pressure detection, urodynamic examination, pelvic floor ultrasound/MRI, etc. We not only implement non-surgical treatments for pelvic floor diseases: electrical stimulation, biofeedback treatment, magnetic stimulation, pessary treatment, intermediate frequency treatment, laser, TCM, etc. Furthermore, we utilize surgical treatment for pelvic floor diseases: mid-urethral suspension, pelvic floor reconstruction with mesh/natural tissue, pelvic floor reconstruction via vagina/endoscopy, and genital tract deformity plasty. The Center undertakes the consultation duties and gives technical guidance for difficult cases of pelvic floor across Zhejiang Province.

One-off vaginoplasty for congenital absence of uterus and vagina has been quite mature and has achieved good results. Relevant research results have been published in FertilSteri magazine (Impact Factor 4.81) and won the first prize in medical science and technology of Zhejiang Province. In 2012, “The Study of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Combined with Silk Suspender in the Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence” won the first prize of Zhejiang Natural Science Academy. In 2015, “Basic and Clinical Research of Female Reproductive Tract Plastic Based on Functional Reconstruction” won the National Innovation Award of Science and Technology of Plastic and Cosmetic Association in China.

1.Pelvic Floor Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center (PFDDTC) has a long-term commitment to advanced study and training of pelvic floor specialists.

1)We have received more than one hundred medical staff per year from all over the country.

2) A national advanced study and training class for pelvic floor medicine isheld 1-2 times per years, and over 1000 doctors and nurses attend the class per year.

3) “Hold hand-held” training class 4-6 issues per year, training 200 pelvic floor health care staff every year.

2. Postgraduate training in Medical School of Zhejiang University

1) There are 2 graduate supervisors, and 2-3 graduate students each year.

2) Refereed publications: More than 100 refereed publications, more than 10 SCI papers, dozens of domestic first-level journals, presided over more than 10 national and provincial pelvic floor granting agency.

Our main research fields are basic and clinical research of pelvic floor dysfunction and female genital malformation. The main research directions are as follows:

1. basic research on pathogenesis of SUI

2. The construction and application of the pelvic floor prevention system, explore the clinical efficacy of pelvic floor rehabilitation treatment, optimize the pelvic floor rehabilitation treatment, and provide a feasible and valuable clinical decision for pelvic floor dysfunction.

3. We explore new technologies and projects in the field of pelvic floor (such as magnetic stimulation, vascular stimulation technology), and verify their application and clinical efficacy in pelvic floor dysfunction so as to optimize the form and content of pelvic floor rehabilitation treatment

4. Epidemiological studies of pelvic floor dysfunction.

5. Clinical and basic research on female genital malformations.

In summary, we combined basic clinical research, formulating treatment strategies and analyzing the results of these studies to optimize diagnosis and treatment options
