WHZJU holds Sino-US frontier science symposium

On March 23, “2022 Sino-US Frontier Science Symposium” was successfully held at Women’s Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University in online format. The symposium brought together over 30 physicians, researchers, educators and students from China and US to share their insights on new progress in frontier science.

Professor LUO Qiong, vice president of Women’s Hospital, School of Medicine Zhejiang University, gave an opening remark and introduced the hospital. LIU Aixia, deputy Director of International Affairs Office hosted the meeting.

Professor Sheng Zhang, director of the Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility, Cornell University, delivered a speech on leveraging life science research by emerging proteomics and metabolomics technologies. Prof. Sheng Zhang gave a pioneering interpretation on the application of the combination of metabolomics and proteomics in gene and disease treatment.

Dr. Alireza Haghighi, director of International Center for Genetic Disease, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, gave a general introduction on International Center for Genetic Disease. The center is the largest producer of human genomic information in the world, and leader in design data generation, and methods supporting major genomic projects.

Professor ZHANG Dan, vice dean of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, delivered a speech on early screening and diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency. She interpret the genetic mechanism of premature ovarian insufficiency(POI), and explores clinical intervention, carrying of offspring disease-causing genes, intervention measures and fertility preservation for patients with POI, and improve the quality of birth population.

Professor Yiping Shen gave comments on the symposium, stressed the importance of frontier scientific research and the transformation of frontier science has a profound impact on the practice of diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

The both sides had an in-depth discussion about the speech topics and exchanged their opinions.
