Department Introduction

Clinical Laboratory in Women’s Hospital (Zhejiang University) is a comprehensive clinical medical laboratory center integrating medical testing, clinical teaching and scientific research. It is a demonstrative laboratory of the Zhejiang Province and certified by the Global Laboratory Quality Assessment Organization-Westgard 6 Sigma VP as well. The Lab adheres to the scientific, accurate and efficient guideline, focuses on the whole process quality management, strives for continuous improvement to provide more rapid, accurate and reliable test results for the clinic and patients.

Clinical Laboratory provides laboratory testing service for prenatal diagnosis center in Zhejiang Province, Key Laboratory of Reproductive Genetics Education Department (Zhejiang University) and Paternity test laboratory of Zhejiang University Judicial Appraisal Center. Established according to the Level II National Bio safety standard, Clinical Laboratory contains 8 professional divisions providing tests including basic clinical test, clinical biochemistry, reproductive endocrinology, clinical immunization, clinical microbe, clinical molecular diagnosis, clinical blood transfusion and prenatal screening, etc. There have been more than 400 clinical testing items in the Lab, and the new projects are continuously developing to meet the clinical needs for clinical screening, diagnosis, treatment-and women’s healthcare.

Clinical laboratory provide a training base for national resident physician and gene amplification in Zhejiang province.

Scientific research and academic study are also focal points in the Lab. In recent years, more than 30 projects are carried out in Clinical Laboratory funded by National key research projects and development plans, National Science and Technology Support Projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation, Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Department Major Project, Zhejiang Provincial Medical and Health Science and Technology Project, Zhejiang Education Department Project and Zhejiang Provincial Family Planning Commission Project, etc. The scientific research achievements include the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of Zhejiang Province, the third prize of the Provincial Education Department Award and 3 national invention patents. More than 120 academic papers were published in professional journals domestic and abroad. As a major participant, we make our contributions to several professional standards and expert consensus, and edit academic books in the field of women and children care. In the prenatal screening, birth defect risk assessment, teratogenic pathogen infection diagnosis, small biochemical molecule mass spectrometry testing, The Lab gains distinctive specialties and authority, and enjoys a highly academic reputation in the domestic women-children care field and clinical laboratory diagnosis community.

The Clinical Laboratory (including blood transfusion department) has well-structured talents with 83 laboratory technicians, 2 doctors, 1 scientific researcher. In which, 7 members get the senior titles, 27 gain the intermediate titles. In education background, 4 members get the doctorate degree and 20 members get the master’s degree.
