Department Introduction
Introduction of Reproductive Endocrinology Unit 1
1. About Us
Fertility Unit 1of Women’s hospital school of medicine Zhejiang university is one of the departments of the reproductive medicine center, with a faculty about thirty and 51 beds. Our unit mainly undertakes the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive endocrine-related diseases and infertility caused by various reasons, and also provides education for patients and trainings for young clinicians. Our service is always at the leading level in China.
2. Treatment & Service
We mainly undertake the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive endocrine-related diseases and infertility caused by various reasons. We use minimally invasive surgery to correct reproductive function, and diagnose and treat complications with assisted reproductive technology.
3. The Milestone of Expertise
In October 1994, our unit launched in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), which was the earliest in China. On July 10, 1996, the first test-tube infant was born in Zhejiang Province, filling the gap in this field in Zhejiang Province and winning the first prize in the progress of Health Science and technology in Zhejiang Province.
In March 1996, the center took the lead in carrying out selective embryo reduction under the guidance of vaginal B-mode ultrasound in the province. The successful rate of abortion was high, and it was a promotion project of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Health in 2000.
4. Education & Training
The team of reproductive medicine discipline ranks first in the province in scientific research, clinical skills, service ability and teaching ability. Clinical routine work focuses on the treatment of reproductive endocrine diseases and infertility, accurately assessing reproductive capacity and improving the efficiency of assisted pregnancy technology. At the same time, it undertakes the training of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students in the direction of reproductive endocrinology in College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine Zhejiang University. It also serves as a training base for assisted reproductive technology in China and trains doctors, laboratories and nurses from reproductive centers all over the country.
5. Research
1) Research of reproductive endocrine-related diseases focuses on the pathogenesis and clinical solutions of reproductive disorder-related polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, premature ovarian failure, early recurrent abortion and spermatogenesis disorders. It involves basic research on the molecular biological mechanism of human germ cell development and fertilization, embryo development and implantation, as well as paragenetic modification, and carries out research on maternal-fetal interaction of early embryo implantation with trophoblast stem cells, and explores early implantation.
2) Study on new methods of molecular genetic diagnosis before implantation strives for controlling the birth of hereditary defective infants and improving the quality of the birth population;
3) Study on the long-term effects of assisted reproductive technology on embryo, fetal development and postnatal development provides the basis for the formulation of assisted reproductive technology norms and industry standards.
4) The research of human embryonic stem cell with the aim of exploring human gene therapy.
6. Others
In November 2001, our unit was appraised by the expert group of the Ministry of Health and became the first unit in China to carry out all kinds of assisted reproductive technology.
In March 2007, we were one of the first units that were granted as the national training base for assisted reproductive technology by the Ministry of health.
In January 2011, we won the two prize of national science and technology progress.
In 2015, we became the key supporting subject of Zhejiang medical science.
In 2015, we won the first prize in science and technology for maternal and child health.
