Professor Xinmei Zhang from department of Gynecology, Women’s Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine presented “The pregnancy of women with adenomyosis is related to the relationship between placental implantation and adenomyotic lesions”. Professor Zhang addresed that it was necessary to identify the high risk factors affecting the fertility and reproductive outcomes of patients with adenomyosis before pregnancy in order to minimize obstetric complications. However, little attention has been paid to whether the positional relationship between placenta and adenomyotic lesion influences the maternal and perinatal outcomes. In his presetation, the positional relationships between placenta and adenomyotic lesion were graphically presented. The data showed that pregnant women complicated with adenomyosis were associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. When the placental implantation site overlaped the adenomyotic lesion, adverse pregnancy outcomes were more likely to happen, especially preterm delivery and lower birth weight. In conclusion, patients with adenomyosis need detailed and thorough evaluation before pregnancy and close monitoring and early intervention should be carried out to improve pregnancy outcomes. The report appealed to a broad audience including obstetricians, gynecologists and health administrative department, and all the participants spoke well of the speech he delivered at the discussion.
