Dr. Jörg P. Weimer from Kiel University Hospital visits WHZJU

To enhance international academic exchange, Dr. Xiufeng Huang, Director of Gynecology Unit 1 from the Department of General Gynecology invited Professor Jörg P. Weimer, Director of the Gynecological Oncology Laboratory at Kiel University Hospital in Germany, for an academic visit and exchange. This visit was supported by the "WHZJU Global Partnership Fund" .


On October 15, 2025, an academic seminar with Dr. Jörg P. Weimer was held at WHZJU. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Aixia Liu, deputy director of the International Cooperation Office. Dr. Xiufeng Huang, Director of Gynecology Unit 1, Dr. Yaxia Chen, Director of Gynecological Oncology Unit 2, Dr. Zhengyun Chen, Deputy Director of Research Ward, as well as young doctors and graduate students from the Department of  General Gynecology and Gynecological Oncology participated in the seminar.


Dr. Aixia Liu extended a warm welcome to the expert from Kiel University, Germany. She noted that 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Hangzhou and Kiel. Over the past 29 years, our hospital has maintained close ties with Kiel University and has repeatedly sent key physicians to the Gynecological Oncology Laboratory at Kiel University for training and exchange. She expressed hope that this visit would further promote clinical and academic exchanges in gynecology and advance closer collaboration in the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical research of gynecological diseases.


Dr. Jörg P. Weimer expressed sincere gratitude for the hospital's warm invitation and thoughtful arrangements. He delivered a lecture titled "Genomic Chaos in Gynecological Tumors," providing a detailed introduction to genomic chaos in endometrial and ovarian malignancies, as well as related testing conducted by his team. The lecture offered new insights into the early diagnosis and targeted therapy of gynecological tumors, presenting an internationally perspective for medical staff in gynecology and oncology. The session featured lively interactions, with in-depth discussions on technical details and clinical translation.

Dr. Jörg P. Weimer visited the Central Laboratory and Animal Center at Qianjiang Campus of our hospital, as well as  Precision Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory for Major Gynecological Diseases at Huajiachi Campus of Zhejiang University. He gained further insight into our hospital’s research achievements in gynecological tumor immunity, animal experiments, and gene sequencing. He highly recognized the recent scientific research accomplishments of our hospital and had a productive exchange with Dr. Junbin Qian  of the Huajiachi Laboratory on single-cell sequencing technology.

Additionally, invited by Professor Li Yuan from the Zhejiang University Institute of German Studies, Director Jörg P. Weimer, Dr. Huang Xiufeng and other team members visited Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University. Professor Li Yuan introduced  the development of the Institute of German Studies and its collaborations with German institutions, highlighting achievements in German language teaching and interdisciplinary innovations. She expressed the anticipation for further exchanges.

The visit not only strengthened the academic ties between our hospital and Kiel University but also laid a solid foundation for future collaboration. Our hospital will continue to uphold an open attitude and collaborate with internationally renowned academic institutions to foster innovation in medical research and clinical practice.
