SOAP (the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology) was founded in 1968. The aim of SOAP is to improve the outcome of perinatal events for women and newborns by supporting obstetric anaesthesia research, educating relevant personnel (members of the society, professionals in other fields and pregnant women) and promoting the quality of clinical anaesthesia services. Its members include anesthesiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, and basic research workers. The SOAP 2024 (56th) Conference will be held in Denver, USA from May 1, 2024 to May 5, 2024. The theme of 2024 SOAP meeting is focusing on the patient, improving individual outcomes and experiences.

The "research session" on the morning of May 3 includes five sub-sessions, which are as follows :Session 1: ERAS; Session 2: Hypotension + Vasopressors / Cardiac + Preeclampsia; Session 3: Racial disparities + global health ; Session 4: PAS + PPH – coagulation ; Session 5: Neuraxial Labor Analgesia ; Session 6: Morbidity, drugs, and non-CS anesthesia.
In session 2, Chief Physician Chen Xinzhong delivered a speech entitled: Effect of crystalloid co-loading infusion rate on the dose requirements of prophylactic phenylephrine for preventing Hypotension following spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery respectively from the background of the study, method, result, elaborates the conlusion that the conclusion of the study is summarized as: A negative correlation was found between the volume of liquid cohydration and the dose of preventive vasopressor in preventing spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension during cesarean delivery under the condition of this study. These findings may have significant implications for clinical practice and worth of further investigation. This conclusion provides an effective reference for the prevention and treatment of obstetric anesthesia hypotension.
In session 5, attending physician Sun Lihong delivered a speech at the conference. Entitled :Comparative study of labor analgesia onset with injection of loading dose through epidural needle versus The study illustrates that researchers in the Department of Anesthesiology in our hospital have conducted great clinical reference studies on how to improve the quality of labor pain relief and ensure maternal and child safety.
These two speeches caused active discussions and exchanges among scholars on the spot, and triggered heated exchanges and discussions among scholars at home and abroad at the conference.
